How We Verify a Spec Before It Goes on a Product Page

A press release says a shell is “premium maple.” A manufacturer’s spec sheet says a module has “over 400 sounds.” Neither of those is a number you can act on, and neither is where the specs on this site come from.

Every spec on a DrumSet Lab pick is pulled from that product’s own current Amazon listing: the ply count, the bearing-edge angle, the exact pad size, the module’s real voice count. Not a press kit, not a manufacturer’s marketing page, and not a number we remembered from the last time we checked. Those three sources drift out of sync constantly. A listing gets updated when a supplier changes; a press release doesn’t.

That’s slower than it sounds. A five-piece kit has a shell material, a bearing-edge cut, a hoop gauge, a lug count, and a hardware pack, and each of those needs to be read off the actual product page, not assumed because a sibling model in the same line has the same number. Two kits in the same series can ship with different bearing edges depending on the year, and we’ve caught that exact mismatch more than once.

When a brand doesn’t publish a number at all (module polyphony is a common one), we don’t fill in a plausible-sounding figure. We leave it out and say the brand doesn’t publish it. A blank spec is more honest than an invented one, even if it makes the table look less complete.

Prices and stock get the same treatment on a shorter clock: every listing tied to a pick gets rechecked on a 30-day cycle, and a kit that’s drifted out of its stated price band gets moved to the correct band or dropped from that category entirely. A price screenshot from three months ago is not a price.

None of this is a claim that the method is bulletproof. Listings change the moment after we check them, and a typo in a table is always possible. What it is a claim about is where the number came from and how recently it was checked, which is the part most “best of” pages don’t tell you at all.
